Akos began training in Shitoryu Karate 13 years ago. Since the age of four, he has been taught not only the techniques of karate, but also the values, discipline, and traditions that accompany the martial arts. Under the instruction of his sensei, Sensei Angelo Mendoza, Akos developed his skills and dedication, earning his Black Belt (Shodan) in 2025 and his Sankyu Shidoin teaching certificate in 2026 under Shihan Tanzadeh. As he takes on the role of sensei, Akos strives to continue the teachings and legacy of his former instructor while maintaining the integrity and traditions of Shitoryu Karate.

In 2019, Sensei Angelo Mendoza graduated from the MHPCTL program at the University of British Columbia’s School of Kinesiology earning his Master's. This has been a significant achievement as he pursues excellence in teaching and transferring knowledge to his students. He currently lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he became the Provincial Head Coach for Karate Manitoba for over 10 years. In addition, Angelo is a High School teacher with over 21 years of experience. He has coached karate at both the provincial and national levels. Angelo started his karate journey at the age of 14. During this journey, Angelo has competed at the local and provincial levels and earned his black belt 5th Degree (Shito Kai). He has been exposed to many teaching and coaching styles that gave him the foundation to develop his own coaching style, which proved to be very successful for his students and athletes.
ENTRUSTING THE DOJO TO THE NEXT GENERATION
Throughout his years as a Sensei, Angelo has dedicated himself to passing his knowledge and experience on to the next generation of karateka. After 13 years of guiding Akos throughout his karate journey, Sensei Angelo is now passing the role of Sensei on to him. Akos will continue to carry forward the values, traditions, and teachings he has learned under Sensei Angelo's guidance while building upon the strong foundation created within the dojo.

Our dojo is proudly affiliated with Shitoryu Karate Canada as Shitoryu Karate Manitoba. Our Sensei and owner are well connected with the organization, including its head, Shihan Tanzadeh. Through this affiliation, our dojo continues to uphold the traditions, values, and standards of Shitoryu Karate while remaining connected to the wider karate community across Canada. Our affiliation with Shitoryu Karate Canada helps ensure that our dojo follows a unified standard of teaching and continues to uphold the highest standards of Shitoryu Karate.
