Mendoza Sensei was first introduced to Karate at the age of 15 in his home country of Nicaragua. For the past 33 years, he has never stopped training in the Martial Arts.
In 1977, Mendoza Sensei started training under Alvaro Alegria Sensei (3rd Dan) in the Shito Ryu style for several years in Nicaragua obtaining his Black Belt in 1986.
Mendoza Sensei came to Canada in 1986, and trained in Shotokan and Kyokushinkai Karate. In 1991, he obtained his Black Belt in Shotokan Karate. Mendoza Sensei then trained under Shawn Ho Sensei in Vancouver, Canada in the style of Kyokushinkai.
In 1998, upon moving back to Winnipeg, Mendoza Sensei founded Bushido-Kai Canada where he incorporated his years of training and practice in the Martial Arts. It was his desire to return to his roots of Shito Ryu Karate.
In 2002, Mendoza Sensei obtained his Sandan (3rd Degree Black Belt), by 2009, he was promoted to the rank of Rokudan (6th Black Belt) for Karatedo. In addition to his continued studies of Karatedo, Mendoza Sensei holds a Nidan in Muso Jikiden Eishin-Ryu, the Japanese martial arts of the sword, which emphasizes drawing and cutting with the samurai sword.

Since moving to Canada, Mendoza Sensei has devoted himself to teaching others his passion for traditional martial arts. Mendoza Sensei believes that karate is a way of life that can contribute to one’s success and well being, as it has for him. He believes karate to be of equal benefit to the mind and body alike, focusing on both physical and mental conditioning.
Mendoza Sensei holds a Bachelors degree in Physical Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Education. Currently, Mendoza Sensei teaches technology education in high school in addition to serving as Director and Founder of Bushido-Kai Canada School of Martial Arts.

In July, 2007, Tora Team Canada under the leadership of Mendoza Sensei travelled to Osaka, Japan for special training at the Hombu Dojo of Nidaime Soke Kenei Mabuni and his Shito Kai Masters (Master Kenyu Mabuni, Master Hirofumi Mizuguchi, Master Junosuke Okano, Master Kentaro Yamaoka, Master Tasuya Fujinaga, and special guest Sensei Jean-Eric Luque of France).
In July, 2009, Sensei Angelo Mendoza, Sempai Brittney Katchin, and Sempai Kyle Cross participated at the 35th Canadian Karate Championship in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Both Sempai Brittney and Kyle had great performances. Sempai Brittney placed 4th in Kumite. Sensei Angelo got double bronze medals, in Kata and Kumite divisions.

On January 8, 2010, Sensei Angelo was named as a coach to the Manitoba Provincial Team, Congratulations!
In 2010. Bushido-Kai Canada became a member dojo of the prestigous All Japan Shito-Ryu Seiko-Kai Association under Shihan Akira Sato, Pan-American Branch.
